Working As A Freelance Tour Guide

Working As A Freelance Tour Guide

Peggy decided she wanted a change in her career and needed to spend more time in the outdoors; coming across our New Zealand Work & Train Program she saw it as the perfect opportunity to mix work experience with outdoor training. Currently travelling, she off to work as a free lance tour guide role taking people all over the world - first stop hiking the Great Wall of China!

What are you doing now that you've finished the Work & Train Program?

  • After finishing the Work & Train Program in New Zealand, I’ve been travelling and doing hikes at different places in New Zealand and UK. Some epic adventures I’ve done since the Work & Train Program would be sea kayaking and hiking at Abel Tasman National Park and also hiking to the peak of Snowdon, which is the highest mountain in Wales!

How did the program set you up for completing these adventures?

  • The Work & Train Program has taught me that I can overcome any hurdles coming my way in my adventures and always be brave in trying new things and following through with it. I have also become more resilient in facing uncomfortable situations and having more confidence in myself. Don’t forget there’s type 2 fun as well! You are always proud of yourself after those memorable epic adventures!

What advice would you give to those who are considering this program?

  • I would advise those who are considering the Work & Train Program to challenge themselves and give it a go even if they feel unsure if they can accomplish these feats at the start. As long as you have the right attitude and determination, you will gain so many valuable skills from the instructors and also build a strong connection with like-minded adventurers in your program.

What's your plans now the program is finished?

  • I have landed a freelance outdoor job bringing people out for hikes to different parts of the world! My first trip will be a hiking trip to the legendary Great Wall of China! I’m excited to start this new adventure of mine and feel free to follow me on my journey on Instagram @pgpq!
